Coding

In the digital age, coding has become a fundamental skill across various industries, not just technology. The art of coding is a blend of creativity, logic and innovation. At Talus Academy, our approach to teaching coding is uniquely progressive, ensuring that every student, regardless of their starting point, is set on a path to mastery and innovation.

Our comprehensive coding curriculum starts with the basics of computer languages and logic and progresses to more complex programming and app development. Our programs are tailored to inspire innovation and creativity, enabling students to build their own programs and solutions from an early age.

Recognising that the best learning often happens when it’s fun, we kickstart our after-school education program in Coding with block-based programming integrated into beloved games like Minecraft. This seemingly playful approach introduces students to foundational concepts of coding in an environment they are comfortable and enthusiastic about. By manipulating and customising aspects of their favourite games, students are organically introduced to computational thinking without being overwhelmed by complex syntax.

Once the foundations are strong, our students transition into text-based coding. This phase delves deeper into programming languages, offering them a more granular view of the digital architectures they interact with daily. As they type out and debug lines of code, they grasp the nuances of programming languages, gaining the confidence to sculpt digital realities precisely.

The final phase of our coding curriculum introduces students to the tools and platforms industry professionals use. By this point, students are not just passive learners but budding tech architects poised to tackle real-world problems. They’re encouraged to create their own projects using advanced platforms and real-world datasets. Whether developing an app, designing a website, or creating an automated tool, students learn the intricacies of the software development lifecycle. IOT And Robotics

In the nexus between the tangible and the intangible lies a fascinating world of possibilities, and our IOT and Robotics curriculum at Talus Academy is designed to guide students seamlessly through this intricate landscape.

Our courses in IoT and robotics give students hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies. From programming small robots to designing interconnected systems that can communicate with each other, our students are prepared to be at the forefront of technological advancement.

Every great journey begins with a single step, and ours initiates with a dive into digital circuitry. Here, students acquaint themselves with the fundamental components that form the backbone of all electronic devices. They get hands-on experience with LEDs, switches, motors, servos, and more. By learning how these elements work, interact, and can be controlled, students lay the foundational understanding crucial for more complex projects ahead.

Stepping up from basic components, students are then introduced to the brains of many digital devices — microprocessors. With tools like the Arduino, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi Pico, they explore the magic of turning logic and code into physical actions. This phase of our Sydney after-school program isn’t just about programming — it’s about experiencing the immediate real-world results of their code, be it lighting up an LED or driving a motor.

With a robust grasp of microprocessors, students are ready to venture into the vast world of IoT. Here, they learn to create projects that aren’t just interactive but are also interconnected. The final frontier in our continuum is Robotics. At this stage, students combine their knowledge of digital circuitry, microprocessors, and IoT to enter the realm of mechatronics and physical design. Internet Safety And Digital Citizenship

As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, it’s essential to understand the potential and pitfalls of the vast digital realm. At Talus Academy, we have curated a STEM curriculum to ensure our students and their guardians are well-equipped to face the online world with knowledge, confidence and responsibility.

Our STEM curriculum covers responsible online behaviour, privacy protection and digital footprints' ethical implications. We empower our students to become responsible digital citizens who understand the impact of their actions on the global digital landscape.

Our journey begins at the smallest scales, diving deep into the world of atoms, molecules and the fundamental forces that bind them. Students understand atomic structures, electron configurations and the basics of quantum mechanics, revealing the intricate dance that underlies all matter.

From the micro, we transition to the macro. Students delve into the principles of classical mechanics, deciphering the laws that govern the motion of objects. Concepts such as Newton’s laws, kinematics, energy conservation and gravitational interactions become more than just theories — they transform into tangible insights explaining everyday experiences.

Merging digital wellbeing, digital footprint, and cyberbullying, this focus area emphasises the lasting impressions one leaves online, the impact of prolonged digital exposure, and the importance of respectful online behaviour.

Beyond browsing and interacting online, we ensure our students are digitally literate. This includes understanding content critically, discerning credible sources and being aware of the broader implications of digital actions and decisions.
